Public Lecture "Artificial Intelligence For Green City and Tropic"

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 15.00 to 17.30 WIB, located in Meeting Room 1 of the Faculty of Engineering, a Public Lecture Seminar was held with the theme “Artificial Intelligence for Green City and Tropic”. This activity was attended by students of the Urban and Regional Planning Study Program and related lecturers. The event was opened by the Master of Ceremony, Reisya Adinda, who gave a speech and introduced two speakers, namely Dr. Hermawan, S.T., M.T., M.M., lecturer in Architecture Engineering, and Hidayatus Sibyan, S.Kom., M.Kom., from Wonosobo Al-Quran Science University. After the reading of the program, the seminar continued with the material delivery session by the two speakers guided by the moderator.
In the first session, Dr. Hermawan discussed the concept of Green City, especially related to the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon caused by increasing temperatures in cities and its impact on Global Warming. He explained the importance of preventive measures such as energy efficiency, sustainability, and management of natural and human resources. He also explained the eight attributes of Green Cities formulated by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PU Cipta Karya), as well as solutions such as the Urban Cooling Effect through water and open space management. These solutions, according to Dr. Hermawan, can be strengthened by the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in realizing smart compact green cities.

Furthermore, Hidayatus Sibyan presented material on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is not only related to robotic technology, but has also become an important part of everyday human life. He explained the concept of AI that continues to develop, from thinking humanly to acting rationally. Basic techniques in AI such as Searching, Reasoning, and Planning were also presented in detail. Furthermore, he highlighted the application of AI in the context of Green City, particularly for environmental data analysis through algorithms such as support vector machine, which can be used to assess air quality.
After the presentation of the material, the seminar continued with a question and answer session which was enthusiastically followed by the students. The participants asked various questions relevant to the topics discussed. The event was closed by handing over plaques and certificates as a form of appreciation to the speakers and moderators, as well as a group photo session. With the end of this event, it is hoped that this public lecture can provide new insights and be useful for participants in understanding the role of Artificial Intelligence in developing green and sustainable cities.

In closing, the public lecture seminar “Artificial Intelligence for Green City and Tropic” is expected to provide new insights and enrich the understanding of students and other participants regarding the importance of technology application in sustainable urban development. With the synergy between the concept of Green City and Artificial Intelligence, it is expected to create innovative solutions that can overcome environmental challenges in tropical cities, especially related to climate change and global warming. Hopefully this event will inspire students to develop research and innovation in the field of urban and regional planning, and encourage real efforts in realizing environmentally friendly green cities in the future.
